I was born and raised in Alpena and left 40 years ago for school, jobs, and life. I have missed my hometown all these years. There is nowhere that feels like home like Alpena. Now I bring my grown children and their families for the summers to experience the everyday life on the water, bike riding through town with miles of interesting parks, art, and scenery. I love how the people of Alpena keep the town clean, manicured, and beaches groomed. The pier is breathtaking every day no matter the weather, and it is never crowded anywhere. Always room to breath and relax with family and friends.
I vacation now in Alpena because it doesn’t feel touristy. I am just a part of the town again. I am grateful for the peace and calming environment it offers for those of us who have had to live and work in other states to make ends meet. I am grateful that rules, regulations, and lawsuits don’t interfere with the ability to easily enjoy the water, hiking, fishing, and boating. Thank you, Alpena, for remaining true to who you are. I was looking at an antique store for a particular book that was no longer in print. Being new to the area I wanted to know Alpena's history. One of the vendors thought she may have it her home, they later contacted me to let me the book was in I fully expected to pay for the book to my surprise she had it all wrapped up with a welcome note and gifted me the book!! I have also had a few random acts of kindness since moving here 3 years ago.
When Covid-19 hit us months ago and some of our businesses had to close [to the public] (mine being one of them) I was brought to tears at how many of my regular clients reached out to me offering help.
