Parking in Downtown Alpena

If you're visiting Downtown Alpena, chances are you're going to need to park your car. Our downtown has a variety of short-term, long-term, on-street and parking lot options. All parking is free; however, parking limits are enforced from 8 am- 6 pm, Monday through Saturday.

We strive to make our downtown as walkable as possible, so if you're going to stay awhile, we encourage you to park in one of our long-term lots and enjoy our downtown by foot.

Long Term Parking Options

You can park in the following parking lots all day:

• Lot 2. Located on River St. & Third St.
  
• Lot 3. Located next to the river on Carter St.
• Lots 9 & 10. Located next to the river on Water St.
• Lots 5 & 6. Entrances on Lockwood St.
• Lot 7. Entrance located on Old Washington Ave. 
• Lot 11. Located behind City Hall off of Park Place or Water St.
• Lot 12. Parking next to the Alpena Boat Harbor & Marina.

 Short Term Parking Options

If you're running errands or in downtown for a short period of time, the following lots offer 3-hour parking:

• Lot 1. Located behind the Center Building & Mango's Tequila Bar. Entrance off Third Ave. or River St.
• Lot 8. Located behind Sherwin Williams & The Alpena News. Entrance off First Ave. 

Most of our on-street parking has a two-hour time limit, especially in the downtown core. ​Please check signage before you park.

Limits are enforced 8 am- 6 pm, Monday through Saturday.

On-Street Parking

Most of our on-street parking has a two-hour time limit, especially in the downtown core. 
Please check signage before you park to make sure you are following time limits. ​While parking is free, we do enforce time limits. 
Please try to keep on-street parking reserved for customers and those visiting our downtown for a short period of time.

Overnight Parking

Lot 3 has all-day and overnight parking, all-year round.  Lot 3 can  be accessed off Carter St.

Overnight parking is prohibited in all other parking lots unless you have an overnight permit issued through the DDA. 

Parking overnight on streets is prohibited November 1- April 1 for snow plows to come through. 

Parking Permits

The Alpena DDA rents out limited spaces throughout the downtown to downtown residents, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parking Tickets 

Received a parking ticket? Parking tickets can be paid in-person at City Hall in the City Clerk's office (first floor), located at 208 N. First Ave. or mailed to Alpena City Clerk, 208 N. First Ave., Alpena, MI  49707. Please note parking violation rates increase after 10 days and after 20 days if they go unpaid.

Please note that as of July 7, 2022, fees for parking violations have increased. A majority of violations will now be issued a $20 ticket, which increases to $40 if unpaid after 10 days and $80 if unpaid after 20 days. You can view the press release & fee table at the buttons below.
