Alpena Art Walks
The Alpena Art Walks are organized and hosted by five local galleries: Art in the Loft, Forty-Five North Art Gallery, My Glass Wings, Studio Rubedo, and Thunder Bay Arts Council Gallery. Art Walks occur on the last Friday of the month during the months of May through September and November. The galleries remain open late, until 8:00pm, and offer live music, food, drinks, and other activities.

Spirit of the Blues
As part of a new collaboration between the Alpena Blues Coalition, The Fresh Palate and the Alpena DDA the Annual Blues Fest has moved downtown onto Second Avenue. This year, in addition to the blues music, the Fresh Palate will host a Michigan Craft Spirits Tent, and the Alpena DDA will host a Family Zone with a full schedule of events including an Art in the Loft ArtPOP, Storytime, and a Thunder Bay Theatre Dance Class. All events in the Family Zone are FREE.
One of the Blues Coalition's philanthropies is Stamp out Hunger with the Blues. This year, to help raise money to fight hunger in our community, the DDA is implementing a public art project. For a donation of money or canned goods, members of the public will be able to paint a plate, filling it with art to symbolize filling the plate of someone in need. Plates will be collected and put on display later this year at Art in the Loft. The goal this year is to paint at least 200 plates!

Fresh Waves: The Downtown Mural Project
In 2019, the DDA launched a new arts initiative to bring more murals and public art downtown. The first year, Aaron Golbeck and Chad Bolsinger painted a beautiful mural in Downtown Alpena on the wall at Family Enterprise, located at 211 S. Second Avenue. Each year the location of the mural will change and be selected by the DDA's Marketing & Promotion Committee. The call for art for Fresh Waves is usually released sometime in December or January with the mural to be painted the following summer. We celebrate the completion of the mural each year with a fun party including music, refreshments, a cash bar and the chance to take a photo with our new mural downtown.
