Alpena Blues Festival
As part of a new collaboration between the Alpena Blues Coalition, The Fresh Palate and the Alpena DDA, the Alpena Blues Festival has moved to Downtown Alpena! In addition to live blues performances, the Fresh Palate hosts a Michigan Craft Spirits Tent, and the Alpena DDA hosts a Family Zone with a full schedule of family-friendly events.
The 2020 Alpena Blues Festival, originally scheduled for June 20, has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
The Alpena Blues Coalition is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2003, committed to pursuing, preserving, and presenting music, The Blues in particular, in support of educational and charitable purposes. The coalition is a 100% volunteer organization. 100% of the support received through sponsorship and the festival are used to produce the festival and support our causes.
In 2019, the DDA launched a new arts initiative to bring more murals and public art downtown. The first year, Aaron Golbeck and Chad Bolsinger painted a mural at Family Enterprise, located at 211 S. Second Avenue. Each year the location of the mural will change and be selected by the DDA's Marketing & Promotion Committee.
We are excited to announce our first mural that will be painted this summer will be located on the side of Alpena Vintage Company, located at 200 N. Second Ave., by artist Britt Flood. Britt Flood is a professional artist based in Pittsboro, North Carolina and has painted public murals in Massachusetts, Michigan, and throughout North Carolina for various municipalities, festivals, and businesses. Flood will be coming to Alpena the end of July to begin the work on the new mural. Read the full announcement here.
This summer we will be moving forward with our Fresh Waves Mural Project. The mural(s) will still be painted by the selected artist(s), but the celebratory event will be postponed until at least the Fall due to restrictions around COVID-19.
